This Privacy Policy describes how Jyotish Gayan Academy ("Jyotish Gayan", "we", "us" or "our"), with its centre at Sector 50, Gurgaon, Haryana, India, collects, uses, discloses, stores and protects personal information collected from visitors and users ("you", "your") of jyotishgayan.com and related WhatsApp / class platforms (collectively, the "Services").
We comply with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).
1. Information we collect
a. Information you provide directly
- Identity & contact — full name, phone number, WhatsApp number, email, city / country.
- Enrolment data — course chosen, batch preference, learning goals, prior experience.
- Consultation data — date, exact time and place of birth, photograph of property (Vastu), specific questions or concerns.
- Communications — messages exchanged with our team on WhatsApp, email, phone or contact forms.
- Payment information — invoice details such as name, billing address and GSTIN (if any). Card / UPI / netbanking credentials are entered on the gateway's page and are never stored by us.
b. Information collected automatically
- Device information (browser, OS, screen size), IP address (approximate location only), referring URL.
- Usage analytics — pages visited, time on page, clicks, scroll depth.
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 7).
2. How we use your information
- To deliver the course, consultation, recording or service you purchased.
- To send class links, schedules, reminders, study material and certificates.
- To prepare and deliver your astrological / numerology / Vastu reading.
- To respond to enquiries on WhatsApp, phone, email or contact forms.
- To process payments, generate invoices and meet tax / accounting obligations.
- To send occasional batch announcements, festival offers or newsletter — you can opt out anytime by replying "STOP" on WhatsApp or "unsubscribe" by email.
- To improve our website, content and student experience.
- To prevent fraud, abuse and to enforce our Terms.
- To comply with applicable laws, court orders or government requests.
3. Legal basis for processing
We process your data based on one or more of the following:
- Consent — when you submit a form, enrol in a course or book a consultation.
- Contractual necessity — to deliver the service you paid for.
- Legitimate interest — to operate, secure and improve our Services.
- Legal obligation — to comply with Indian tax, accounting and IT laws.
4. Sharing & disclosure
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. Limited information is shared only with:
- Payment partners — to process your payment (e.g. Razorpay, Cashfree, Stripe).
- Class & meeting platforms — Zoom / Google Meet to host live sessions.
- Hosting & email providers — to operate the website and send transactional emails.
- WhatsApp Business API providers — to send class links and updates.
- Analytics providers — anonymised usage data only.
- Government / law-enforcement — only when required by valid Indian legal process.
- Successor entities — in case of merger, acquisition or restructuring, with continued protection of your data.
5. Data retention
We retain enrolment, consultation and invoice records for as long as required to provide the service and to meet tax, accounting and legal obligations (typically up to 8 years for financial records under Indian law). Birth details and consultation notes are retained for up to 3 years to support follow-up readings, after which they are securely deleted unless you request earlier deletion or longer storage.
6. Your rights under the DPDP Act
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications.
- Nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity.
- Lodge a grievance with our Grievance Officer (Section 11) and, if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India.

7. Cookies & tracking
We use:
- Essential cookies — required for site functionality.
- Analytics cookies — to understand which pages are most useful.
- Functional cookies — to remember preferences such as language.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings without losing access to course content.
8. Data security
We follow reasonable security practices as required under Rule 8 of the SPDI Rules — including HTTPS / TLS encryption in transit, access control, password hashing, restricted admin access and periodic backups. While no system is 100% secure, we work hard to protect your data.
9. Children's privacy
Our Services are intended for users aged 18 and above. Minors may enrol only with the verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian, who must complete the enrolment on the child's behalf.
10. International transfers
Some of our service providers (e.g. analytics, email, video platforms) may store data on servers outside India. We rely on standard contractual safeguards offered by these providers and only engage partners that maintain industry-grade security.

12. Updates to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or on this page at least 7 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the latest version.
